Dental Chair and Dental Equipment Prices in Kenya (2026)

Opening a dental practice in Kenya is one of the most capital-intensive things a young clinician can do, and the chair is the single largest line item. It also determines the ergonomics of every procedure you will perform for the next decade, so it deserves more thought than a price comparison.

What KSh 350,000 buys, and what it does not

A complete dental chair at this price includes the patient chair with motorised positioning, the dentist delivery system with handpiece tubings, an operating light, a suction system, a three-way syringe, a spittoon and an assistant unit. That is a working surgery.

What it does not include, and what new practices routinely forget to budget for, is the air compressor and the handpieces themselves. The chair provides tubings; it does not provide the air. An oil-free compressor sized to the chair is essential, and dry, filtered air is what keeps handpieces alive. Buying a cheap compressor to save money on a KSh 350,000 chair is a false economy that shows up as handpiece failures within months.

Left, right or ambidextrous

Chairs are configured for right-handed or left-handed operation, and converting later is expensive or impossible. If you are left-handed, say so at the point of enquiry rather than at delivery. If the surgery will be shared by clinicians of both handedness, an ambidextrous configuration is worth the premium.

Also decide between an over-the-patient delivery system and a side-mounted cart. Over-the-patient keeps instruments within easy reach and suits solo operators. A side cart is better where you work with a chairside assistant, because it keeps the space over the patient clear.

Room requirements before the chair arrives

Three services need to be in the floor or wall before installation: a water supply, a drain for the spittoon, and power. Retrofitting a drain into a finished floor is the most common delay we see on dental installations in Kenya. Plan a room of at least 3 by 3 metres so the chair can recline fully with the operator and assistant seated, and site the compressor outside the surgery because the noise is intrusive during consultations.

For radiography, confirm the current Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority licensing and shielding requirements for the unit you intend to use, and factor the licence and any lead protection into the budget rather than treating it as an afterthought.

Sterilisation is not optional

Dental handpieces are hollow, which is exactly the load a basic gravity autoclave cannot sterilise reliably. This is why the dental autoclave costs more than a general clinic unit of similar chamber size. If your budget is tight, cut elsewhere. Our autoclave price guide explains the difference between gravity and vacuum cycles in more detail.

Questions we are asked most often

How much is a dental chair in Kenya?

KSh 350,000 for a complete unit. Chairs advertised far below this are usually being quoted as the chair frame alone, without the delivery system, light or suction, so compare specifications rather than headline numbers.

What is the total cost to open a single-chair practice?

Between KSh 700,000 and KSh 1,000,000 for equipment, depending on whether you include imaging from the start and how much cabinetry you buy new. That excludes rent, fit-out, licensing and working capital.

Do you install dental chairs?

Yes. We handle installation and commissioning and will tell you before delivery what plumbing and electrical work needs to be finished first.

Can you supply equipment you do not stock?

Yes, we import on your behalf where a practice needs a specific brand or configuration.
